Caihong (Rainbow) Waterfall (彩虹瀑布), Dongpu

Caihong Waterfall (print, taken in the early 1990s)

Caihong Waterfall (print, taken in the early 1990s)

A sheer and very impressive plunge of forty meters reached by a fairly short but extremely walk; allow 40-50 minutes for the short, sharp climb up a combination of cement road and steps, to a fine suspension bridge across the gorge just below the fall. Note also that the waterfall often dries up outside the summer wet season, and try to ignore the hideous forest of plastic water pipes cluttering up the gorge just below the waterfall, which serve the cluster of hot spring hotels and resorts in Dongpu village, immediately below.

ACCESS: Moderate. Road and well-made steps, but extremely steep.

Trailhead: 23.561367, 120.928661
